Calculating the offset/backspace

Calculating the backspace and/or offset of the wheels is important when ordering new wheels, specially if the wheel size changes.

How to calculate back space of a wheel

Offset is the distance between hub mounting face and wheel center line.
Track width is the distance between wheel center lines.
Negative offset increases track width, positive offset decreases it.

Backspace (BS) is a measure from wheels machine side edge to hub mounting face.

Offset can be calculated from BS measurement:

e.g. DW18L*38 BS 200 mm
Rim width: 457 mm
Flange width: 21 mm
Offset: 200 – (457/2 + 21) = -50 mm

The unpainted knurling increases friction between the wheel and tyre, and prevents the tyre from slipping off the wheel when working in heavy conditions. Recommended for forestry wheels. LP Wheels knurling reduces rim slip by almost a third!

Most common valve shelter is the VA valve shelter, it will be added on the wheels if requested.

The R2 valve shelter is for heavier use, used mostly in forestry.
There is a plastic valve plug available for the R2 valve shelter.

Additional holes can be added for attaching dual wheels, wheel weights or for air pressure controlling system.

Different tractor manufacturers have different kinds of wheel weights in use. It is important to know the needed bolt circle (PCD) to secure wheel weights fitting well.

For dual wheels the additional holes are usually placed close to the outer edge of the wheel. It is important to know the amount of the holes needed, but the placing of the additional holes depends on the wheel size. We can give suggestion for the drilling before ordering.
